I really liked MikeZ's city-tours, but I guess that's because I'm longing for the game.

As for a discussion way back regarding explorer-gamertypes. Seeing the city videos made me realize it will take weeks before I even get to see the outside of Divinitys Reach. Need to talk to every NPC, find every hidden balcony.
And then came the news about hidden locations in the world that require jumping puzzles to reach and the likes and my exploring heart almost popped!

I watched the first few yogscast videos and have to agree. I wish there were more videos like this than videos of guys mousing over UI elements and going through every option in character creation. That's cool and everything but how many times can you watch that? Show me what its like to play the game.

I agree with all questions except for the skills. I'm actually trying not to read much about skills and how exactly a class works (I want to know what they're like in general - like "heavily depends on having their pet with them" etc.). I want to discover those parts once I'm in the game myself. :)

I'm really curious about the "around the world" part as well. Will I be able to play with those people that I've been sharing GW2 news with the last few months and with whom I've been speculating about the game.

I am also looking forward to the ranger :> It will definitely be my first and main class! About the pets weighing down the ranger, I hope they really get a good AI going with the pets, so they don't overextend/get caught in aoe/herpa derpa >.<. On the other hand, I hope their dmg is nice so that they can't just be ignored in PvP.

"Thing is knowing these people are actively trashing a game I’ve willingly dedicated a lot of my spare time to doesn’t make me want to continue doing so."

I know exactly how you feel. I can sense it in a lot of the original or "core" members of the community that have been there since the beginning or at least the early days. So many of us are just so burned out by all the people that just go absolutely bonkers all the time that we are posting less and less frequently in forums, stopping podcasts, etc. It's not entirely the fault of these over-reacting drama machines, but I'll be perfectly honest, it feels like a huge part of it.

As you said, I'm already a sure thing. I'm going to buy this game and play the crap out of it. I'm just sick and tired of talking to the "children" about it, and it makes me cringe whenever someone "represents" our community by constantly shoving it down people's throats whenever the opportunity arises. It's even worse when they don't offer coherent explanations about why GW2 is going to rock and instead just say "GW2 will own, XYZ sucks about your game, blah blah blah."

[...] Attached to Keyboard — Seriously… “What happened yesterday with regards to the “news” about Guild Wars 2 maybe coming on a console was a load of crap.
I try to tell myself a few things so that it doesn't frustrate me so much that I lose my temper.

I remind myself that, as Tracy says, this is the internet and nothing will ever be calm, reasoned, or fair on the internet.

Another thing I try to remember is that many of these types of people are just plain little kids. I'm an adult now but I was once one of these immature little freak out machines.

And finally, the CMs are paid to do this, and its probably a pretty good job to have overall.

That usually makes me feel better.

Yeah I agree to an extent it is the "internet" and if the problem was isolated to rumour fires I'd probably not feel the way I do. The main issues I have are located with the army of people who feel the need to bring up Guild Wars 2 at every opportunity like it will solve everyone's problems. It is putting people off trying/covering the game (see TotalBiscuit's Facebook) and that's not a good thing for anyone.

And yes I agree the CMs know their jobs come with a certain amount of fire-fighting, but it feels like that is becoming a larger and larger amount of what they are having to do.

Thanks for your comment, Tracy, hope to see you back here again :)

I think what you are referring to is called the "internet". The phenomenon of rumor fires is not limited to games - which is why we have birthers, 9-11 truthers, vaccine refusers and UFOs. I sometimes wish the internet as a whole had a community manager to deal with all the nonsense. Putting out these fires is part of what a community manager does, and I'm sure they came into the job with eyes open. The love they get from those of us who appreciate their work and their honesty should, hopefully, keep them going.
